Backwashing/Cleaning filters
Filters should be taken apart and thoroughly cleaned at least twice a year.  Backwashing alone does not clean a filter.

Acid or chlorine wash
Some pools that have become stained may benefit from an acid or chlorine wash.

Mastic replacement
The caulking around your pool, between the coping and the decking, is called mastic.  It acts as a moisture barrier and should be replaced when it cracks or separates.
